How the general scale is structured

The scale uses two dimensions: the Grade, reflecting the job level from 1 to 15, and the Step, from 1 to 15 within each grade. An employee moves between steps via the annual increment, and between grades by promotion when conditions are met and a position is vacant. A fixed transport allowance of SAR 500 is added to the basic salary, plus other allowances by role and entity.

Annual increment and promotion

The annual increment is granted automatically on completing a year in a step; it is SAR 135 in Grade 1 and rises with the grade. Promotion to a higher grade requires a vacancy plus qualification and experience conditions, moving the employee to the first step of the higher grade that ensures an actual raise.

Pension deduction and net pay

A Saudi government employee has 9% of the basic salary deducted toward the civil pension. To see your net pay after the deduction and allowances, use the salary calculator, and for your exit entitlement see the end-of-service calculator.
